Speaker Bio
Growing up on a mountain in Tennessee, Julie developed a deep love for the culture, architecture and landscape of the South. After receiving her bachelor's degree at Dartmouth College and working in various places around the world, she made her way back to Charlottesville to earn her graduate degree in Architecture at the University of Virginia, with a certificate in Historic Preservation. Her passion for traditional architecture led her to restore the 19th century Rosney Farm in Buckingham County, where she still lives with her husband, three children and countless animals and plants. That project became the foundation for her practice, which she co-founded with Keith Scott in 2005. Since then, she's shared a passion for integrating architecture and lifestyle in a way that feels simultaneously familiar and refreshingly new. She is particularly interested in how buildings help to both enhance and support life in the southern countryside and in how vernacular forms can inform modern design.
